We're a small, distributed team building the part of the software lifecycle that everyone relies on and nobody enjoys: testing.
We're Cofactor. We're engineers who spent years building and breaking production systems at companies large and small, and we got tired of watching good software fail in ways a test should have caught. We work fully distributed, across time zones, with roots in San Francisco and teammates wherever the best people happen to live.
AI changed how software gets written. Code is faster and cheaper to produce than it has ever been, which means the hard part is no longer writing it. It's knowing whether it works. The bottleneck in the modern development lifecycle has quietly moved from authoring to verification. Testing used to be the step you skipped when you were in a hurry. Now it's the thing standing between shipping at AI speed and breaking at AI speed.
So we believe testing should move at the speed you ship, not against it. Confidence shouldn't come from slowing down, piling on process, or crossing your fingers. It should be built into the loop: automatic, honest, and fast enough that nobody is ever tempted to route around it. That's the counterbalance we're building, the part of the lifecycle that lets you move fast precisely because something has your back.
